Perfect Laughter
My project, Perfect Laughter revolves around my paternal grandmother, looking to archive her house and stories. I initially began wanting to explore the safety housed within the four walls of her semi-detached house. But really it was a way of recording her stories before her dementia worsens. Within my research, I turned to an object in her house; a golden Virginia hand rolling Tabacco tin, filled with buttons and note. I explored the role and form of a button as a vehicle for storytelling.
Patterned Assault
I wondered how my role as a textile designer could contribute to a reduction in sexual violence. Thus came my final collection: ‘Patterned Assault’. Its aim? To create a conversation around the topic of sexual violence. In order to create such a conversation, I collected a series of quotes from people at the pub, parties and clubs that relate to the culture of toxic masculinity. These quotes inspired my drawings, which later became screen printed wallpapers. 31% of sexual harassment occurs in clubs & bars, therefore it felt pertinent to design my wallpaper for clubs and bars.
Drift
“Design an interior print collection that is original for John Lewis, making sure it is trend driven and in line with the in-house design style of John Lewis.”
Animal Abstratti
The brief set by i-Dott was to create an abstract yet decorative wallpaper print. The brief was quite open, it just had to capture the form, pattern and colourisation from the animal kingdom.
At the time I felt stuck in a pandemic wishing beyond anything that I could socialise and party with my friends. It felt fitting to design a celebration in the ocean: bringing a bright and technicolour disco to life, deep within the sea. My wallpaper designs ultimately communicate the importance and joy in protecting our oceans.
